Peartree Green lies on the eastern edge of the city of Southampton which is the major seaport on the south of England. The Green is separated from the City by the River Itchen and lies on its eastern bank. Some scores of acres, the Green splits roughly into halves divided by Sea Road (see map), the area between the road and the railway line has been reclaimed and is now an established wildlife area criss-crossed by footpaths. The remaining area is open parkland and a Registered Green, it is divided into three sections by Peartree Avenue and Peartree Road. We shall be exploring the goings-on, past and present, real and imaginary, often with the help of Molly & Desmond Jones our resident geese.
